History

In 1967, four women, in Seattle Washington, sat praying around their kitchen table. They wanted to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and be empowered to influence more women for God's Kingdom. It didn’t take long! Their first public meeting attracted more than 100 women and very quickly the word spread to other States.

By 1974 momentum had grown and Aglow went to Canada and then into New Zealand, beginning in Blenheim. Aglow quickly became an International Ministry known as a "network of caring women". Today, Aglow is in 172 Nations, gathering in more than 17million people annually.

Aglow truly is a multi denominational, global group of people, women and men, working together with local church and networking with other ministries to see God's Kingdom advance on the earth. We pray "Every Nation Touched, Every Heart Changed" by the transforming love and power of Jesus Christ.

In New Zealand…

Our core strength is found in our monthly meetings and prayer groups, where local leadership teams work alongside invited speakers to share the Gospel, bringing sound teaching and practical application from the Word of God. We have 39 groups meeting around the Nation, from the top of the North to the bottom of the South. Our groups include women (and sometimes men) from every age group;  we have teen groups, young mums groups, groups who minister to prisoners and other golden saints who are enjoying the journey of faith together.

We are not a Church, but remain a Ministry bringing in people from all walks of life".

Membership

Why Aglow?

To grow in our faith in Jesus Christ and through Him to make a difference!

We value people, we encourage one another, and delight to see the women and men who come into our meetings discovering their true identity in Christ. Aglow is “a safe place” where members are equipped and strengthened in their faith journey, to then assist in bringing restoration to others.  As we have been blessed, so we bless.

Isn’t it great to feel connected and a sense of belonging to an organisation that is making a difference? That is Aglow!

It is a dynamic, Holy Spirit led group of people, from all walks of life and denominational backgrounds, and yet with one real desire.

It has often been said, “stretch and grow in Aglow”.

By becoming members, we automatically become connected to a worldwide network, where up to date teaching, news, personal prayer ministry and various ministry opportunities are readily available.

Aglow holds bi-annual National conferences, annual Leadership Summits, plus regular training days and retreats. As well as the monthly meetings and prayer groups that are so vital.  Meetings are filled with praise, worship, teaching and encouragement.

There is the added opportunity to attend International Conferences where thousands of Aglow members from the 172 Nations represented in the Ministry come together in worship and to hear from world renowned speakers, prophets and apostles.

One person has said “attending an International Conference is the closest thing to Heaven on earth. Seeing the thousands of people gathered, from so many different tribes and tongues.  It is a foretaste of that great day when we will all gather before His Throne in worship”

"We are not beggars.
It's important for us to stop praying like a widow, and start praying like a bride"

Jeanette Ward – President Aglow NZ

Jeanette has a passion to see women and men become all that God has planned and purposed for them. She believes every person carries a unique sound, given by God, and together we can impact our community, our city and ultimately our nation. Jeanette studied at Bible College NZ for 4 years and graduated with a Ministry Internship Diploma.

Since 1991 Jeanette has been actively involved in leadership at her local church. She was overseer of their Bible School, and numerous other courses for 11years, served as Intercessory Prayer Leader for a few years and is was Head of Department, for their Women’s Ministry, in which she has served for 10 years. Jeanette loves teaching from the revelation of 'Knowing who you are in Christ' and ‘Christ in you’.

While being Secretary to her husband in the business world for many years, Jeanette spoke at Interdenominational Churches and Aglow Retreats throughout New Zealand and in 2010 visited Aglow groups in Samoa. In 2003 she became Consultant to the NZ National Aglow Board and in December 2010 was invited to become the President of NZ Aglow International. Testimony

I first came to Aglow in 1987 after moving into a new area where we knew no-one. It didn’t take long before I had met new friends, many of whom have become wonderful life long friends today. I still recall thinking how mature the Leaders were and I quickly had a desire to grow and be filled with the Spirit in the way they were.

We had just lost our home through a business collapse and we were grieving. But these women took me under their wings and showed me the love of Christ and taught me how to stand on His Word, and become established in His Word regardless of our circumstances.

I was keen to attend Spiritual Enrichment days and later, Leadership Training days. I was growing and loving it. To me, Aglow and all the amazing women in Aglow, have been a God given expression of life changing love and encouragement. We are “doing life” together!

The Ministry opportunities in Aglow are outstanding and I will be forever grateful for the excellent training. The Mandates in Aglow have helped me see and understand so much more from God’s perspective and strengthened my world view.

To the Lord I say thank you and to the wonderful women and men of Aglow, I say thank you!

Vision and Mission

Our vision statement is both bold and broad. It is a statement that encompasses everything we do and leaves expansion for our future. Vision is not about direction. It is about the height we wish to achieve.

Vision Statement

To carry the truth of the Kingdom that:

  • Restores people to a radiant place of relationship with God and one another
  • Breaks the tyranny of oppression
  • Brings freedom and empowerment

Our mission statement is descriptive of what we do and addresses the question of why we exist. These are the things God has called us to do as an organization.

Mission Statement

Aglow International is a Kingdom Movement committed to seeing God’s will done on earth as it is in Heaven. We do this through:

  • Mobilizing millions into a company of warriors, champions, and global leaders of significance.
  • Establishing powerful Kingdom Communities founded on the fullness of Christ in every nation of the world.
  • Empowering people to develop resources that enable them to take advantage of all that God is releasing from Heaven.
  • Forming apostolic teams that demonstrate the power of Heaven in the darkest places of earth.
  • Cultivating a worldwide presence that creates an atmosphere of celebration, impartation, and restoration.

A Fresh Impetus of God’s Spirit is Upon Us.
From Jane Hansen-Hoyt ….

As the leader of this ministry, I boldly proclaim that I am looking for a fresh move of God’s Spirit within Aglow! There is a quickening Spirit upon the truths that He is making so real to us at this time. This fresh impetus of His Spirit is causing us to move to a glorious new place in the Spirit. We have come into a new place. Old things are passing away and new things are emerging!

What We Believe
  • We believe in the one and only triune God. We acknowledge there is one true God consisting of three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, crucified, died, was buried, and resurrected. He ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, and is true God and true man.
  • We believe the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and is our rule of faith and practice.
  • We believe that all are born sinners, the Holy Spirit convicts of sin; the Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for sin by shedding His precious blood on the cross as the atonement for sin; those who refuse to accept His sacrifice for their sin are eternally lost; and those who repent of their sin and personally accept the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior receive the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance, that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are valid and operative today, and that the fruit of the Holy Spirit should be increasingly evident in a Christian’s life.
  • We believe that the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ provides healing for our spirit, soul, and body.
  • We believe that we should obey Jesus’ command to preach the gospel to all the world.
  • We believe that the members of the Body of Christ are the Church, and that they should regularly fellowship with one another in a local church setting.
  • We believe in and look for the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
